Academics

Academic Success

Teen Challenge values education and sees academic success as a key to long-term life success. Teen Challenge takes a very disciplined and structured approach to learning and has been very successful in helping students get back on track with their education.

Science Experiments
Individual Tutoring

Individual tutoring is given to students who are struggling academically. Diagnostic testing is provided to students upon entry into the program. Learning gaps and educational deficits are identified. Information is sought from previous schools, and an individually tailored academic plan is put in place for each student.

Fully Accredited Classes

Students may continue their progress toward a high school diploma by taking fully accredited classes at our Private Christian School.

GED Preparation

Many of the students who come to Teen Challenge lack sufficient high school credit to obtain their diplomas in a timely manner. For this reason, several students choose to pursue their GED while at Teen Challenge.

Students work directly with the GED coordinator to develop an individually tailored study and preparation plan. Students participate in guided study, and tutoring is provided in areas where improvement is needed. Teen Challenge works closely with the local GED testing center which is located in Fayetteville, Arkansas. To date, all of the students who have successfully completed our GED preparation classes have obtained their GED on the first testing.

The Option to Continue Classes from Home after Teen Challenge

Students also have the option of continuing their class work at home after they leave Teen Challenge.  Because of dual enrollment, students can continue their classes through the Alpha Omega Academy distance education program.  They will continue to have assistance from certified teachers while at home.  Continuing school with the Alpha Omega Academy from home may be the preferred option for students whose families are worried about how their child will do if he re-enrolls in their local school district after Teen Challenge.

Transferrable Credit

Students have the ability to earn high school credits while at Teen Challenge. These credits can later be transferred to either private or public schools following the student's completion of the Teen Challenge program. Each subject is divided into 10 units. Each unit contains lessons, quizzes, projects, and a final test. One half (1/2) credit is earned for every 5 units completed in a subject. A full credit is earned for every 10 units completed in a subject. Students must complete at least 5 units in a subject before any credit will transfer.

Teen Challenge education staff will work with each student's local school district in order to develop an appropriate academic plan. The staff will work to place each child in subjects that are appropriate to his ability and that will help that student make progress toward his high school diploma. In many cases, students need remedial coursework and tutoring before they can be placed in academic subjects appropriate to their grade level.

Accreditation and Dual Enrollment

Students at Teen Challenge’s private Christian School are simultaneously enrolled in Alpha Omega Academy’s Distance school.  Since 1992, Alpha Omega Academy has educated thousands of students and is fully accredited by AdvanceEd, the world’s largest educational community with over 27,000 public and private schools.  AdvancED is the parent organization for the former North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA-CASI) and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA).  Dual enrollment through AOA gives students courses through an accredited program which will help them transfer credits, apply for federal grants, and pursue admission to colleges or universities while still being enrolled at Teen Challenge’s private Christian School.    AOA is also a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).

Even though there is no accreditation that guarantees transfer of high school credits from one state to another; Teen Challenge Ranch of NW Arkansas has always been successful in helping students transfer academic credits to other schools (private and public).
